Our membership of over 6,400 is part of the international Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) network, including the Chartered Institute of Taxation UK, The Tax Institute (Australia), the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong and the South African Institute of Taxation. The Institute is also a member of the CFE Tax Advisers Europe (CFE), the European umbrella body for tax professionals.

Our members provide tax services and business expertise to thousands of Irish-owned and multinational businesses as well as to individuals in Ireland and internationally. Many also hold senior roles in professional service firms, global companies, Government, Revenue, state bodies and in the European Commission.

The Institute is, first and foremost, an educational body but since its foundation in 1967, it has played an active role in the development of tax administration and tax policy in Ireland. We are deeply committed to playing our part in building an efficient and innovative tax system that serves a successful economy and a fair society.   • Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) Qualification

    The Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification is the leading tax advisory qualification in Ireland for tax professionals.

    This three-Part qualification is the professional tax qualification of choice in the marketplace and will prepare you to be successful in Tax Advisory by using the skills you learn throughout the programme:

    • Analysis

      Carry out focused research across Irish and international tax law to provide sound advice on business decisions, investment transactions and life events.

    • Judgement

      Identify and resolve uncertain tax positions by reference to legislation, case law and precedent.

    • Communication

      Translate complex legal concepts and communicate implications to taxpayers, including individuals, companies and other entities.

    • Project Management

      Support the successful implementation of tax strategies by planning and project management.

    • Interaction with Others

      Participate in a multi-disciplinary team of advisers and experts in other fields, such as engineers, in an evaluation.

    • Ethics

      Carry out professional activities with integrity, objectivity and independence, to a high professional standard and with due care.

  • Diploma in Tax

    The Diploma in Tax is a 7-month programme gives participants a solid grounding in tax and familiarity with the current compliance rules in an ever-changing tax landscape.

    The programme is designed for people who have an academic or professional qualification which included tax modules to build upon and refresh their tax knowledge.

    By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

    • Evaluate and Identify Tax Issues

      Interpret information and the issues that arise for individuals and companies from key financial and commercial events.

    • Calculate Liabilities and Apply Reliefs

      Understand accounting for tax and the Irish tax administration system.

    • Be Aware of the Interaction of Taxes

      Build an awareness of the different interactions through case studies and multi-disciplinary assignments.

  • Tax Policy and Representations

    The Institute is Ireland's leading representative body for the tax profession on tax administration and tax policy

    We represent our members on tax matters at regional, national and international levels by engaging with stakeholders in Government departments, state bodies and international bodies including the EU Commission and the OECD. We share our research on tax policy and administration with our members, subscribers, the general public, the media, relevant Government departments and statutory bodies.
